Ocean delivers the first CAT 7 network in Sierra Leone
March 2011
Ocean Systems are delighted with the news of our contract to supply the first ever CAT 7 network to be installed in Sierra Leone for the children’s charity organisation World Vision.
“We worked very closely with our local Sierra Leonean partners to arrive at this innovative solution” commented Managing Director Ian Shaw. “The end user wanted a network that was capable of delivering advanced future multi-media network services but was also compatible with their existing infrastructure equipment. Following a lengthy evaluation of this emerging technology we chose to work with Nexans who offered the best combination of the growth path we demanded coupled with the backwards compatibility for existing facilities”
The innovative network comprises both CAT 7 and fibre backbone components. Much of the cable was able to be pre-terminated in the UK to minimise the risk of failure on site. Training was given to the local engineers to ensure they had the necessary skills to work with and support the new CAT 7 infrastructure.
Ian went on to say “This is another great example of how we work very successfully with our local partners to deliver advanced technological solutions in Africa.”
